Ontario is unique and special. It is Canada's second largest province. Ontario covers more than 1 million square kilometers (415, 000 square miles). It is unbelievably larger than France and Spain combined! Ontario's geolocation is James Bay to the north, Quebec to the east, The St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes to the south and Manitoba to the west. Ontario has four ecozones because of the various ecology, climate and topography. All of them are shared with other provinces and/or American states. They are the Hudson Bay Lowlands, which cover 23% of Ontario, The Ontario Shield, which covers 61%, the Mixedwood Plains, which covers 8% and the Great Lakes Ecozone which covers 8% for the Ontario portion of it (the rest is in American states). Ontario has many natural resources such as water and lakes which is a huge component for Canada. The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin actually provides for more than 75% of Canada's manufacturing and a third of Canada's employment in agriculture and food processing. There are many forests as well. 66% of the land in Ontario is occupied by forests. Ontario is also wealthy in fish and wildlife due to the diverse climate Ontario has. Ontario surprisingly has more than 3600 species of plants, 154 species of fish, 483 species of birds and more! Ontario's main industry sector is the primary one because there is a lot of mining, agriculture and forestry because of our variety of natural resources. In 2011, the population density was 14.1 persons per square kilometre. There are many invasive species in Ontario. There aquatic plants, invasive fish, forest pests, invertebrates, pathogens, and land plants. But there are many authorized organizations trying their best to help out.
